ALAMOSA – Spark Speaker Series will host “Empowering Aging in Colorado,” at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center.
Hosted by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Alamosa County, the series addresses issues pertaining to older adults and their health and features local expert speakers on topics such as well-being, nutrition, volunteering, memory, physical health, and much more.
All are welcome and no registration is necessary. The featured speakers are Delzia Worley, Chief Operating Officer with SLV Federal Bank and Mindy Chavez, Savings Department Manager with San Luis Valley Federal Bank. The title of this presentation is “Older Adult Financial Exploitation and Other Common Scams.” Older adult abuse and exploitation refers to any intentional act by a caregiver or another person in a relationship of trust that causes harm or distress to older adults, typically aged 60 or older.
Abusers can be anyone, including people who may have contacted you through social media. Come with questions, concerns, and ready for discussion. They will provide some tips on how to keep you and your information safe.
In addition to the presentation, Nancy Harris, Spark the Change Colorado’s RSVP Manager for Alamosa County, will talk about the benefits of volunteering in one’s community and ways to get involved with RSVP. Come with an open mind, a desire to learn more about seniors and their well-being, and with your own ideas of future topics and speakers.
The speaker meetings are held at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the Alamosa Senior Center, at 92 Colorado Ave. For more information about the Spark Speaker Series, or to become an RSVP volunteer, contact Nancy Harris at nharris@sparkthechangecolorado.org or 303-867-0868, or visit online www.sparkthechangecolorado.org/rsvp.
