ALAMOSA COUNTY — Adapture Renewables/Haynach Solar LLC has submitted a preliminary application to Alamosa County to develop 110 MW of solar PV generation and a 110 MW battery energy storage system capable of harnessing four hours of electricity. This project, if approved, could bring significant economic and environmental benefits to the community.

ALAMOSA — Korsail Energy’s proposed 900-acre solar energy site – Cornflower Solar – again had its 1041 application denied by the Alamosa County Commissioners during a public hearing on Wednesday, April 9, a decision that will directly impact the local community.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Jeff Hurd (R-CO-03), along with Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE-02), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), and Gregory Meeks (D-NY-05) introduced bipartisan legislation to return Congress’ constitutionally authorized role in setting and approving U.S. trade policy. H.R.2665, The Trade Review Act of 2025, requires that unilateral tariffs proposed by the executive branch receive congressional authority.

ALAMOSA — After news of the tariffs imposed by President Trump were made public on Wednesday afternoon, the Valley Courier spoke to Tyler Garrett, director of government relations with the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU). Garrett, along with many of the other presenters, had warned of the impact tariffs would have on agriculture when he spoke at the Southern Colorado Rocky Mountain Ag Conference in February.

ALAMOSA — Maria Kramer, Alamosa Public Library Manager, and Maria DeHerrera, Director of the Conejos County Library, recently traveled to the Colorado state capitol and met with lawmakers Senator Cleave Simpson and Representative Matthew Martinez. The purpose, in Kramer’s words, was to speak to their representatives about the importance of libraries to the San Luis Valley.
USA — According to a statement from the Association of National Park Rangers, Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s Secretarial Order says, “This Order is intended to ensure that all national parks and national historic sites, which are managed by the Department of the Interior (Department), remain open and accessible for the benefit and enjoyment of the American people and to ensure that the National Park Service (NPS) will provide the best customer service experience for all visitors.”

DENVER — Each year the César Chávez Peace and Justice Committee of Denver selects individuals who embody the values and commitment of César Chávez to social justice to receive awards. Award recipients will be honored at the public celebration on Saturday, April 5, following the Marcha and observance of Chávez's life and contributions.
ALAMOSA COUNTY — Korsail Energy, a Denver-based solar energy producer and storage company, has partnered with early-stage finance capital company SolRiver to build a solar production and storage facility in Alamosa County called the Cornflower Solar Project.
ALAMOSA — A little more than two months after the body of Cindy Denholm, 68, was discovered in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches community in Costilla County, the El Paso County coroner has determined the cause of death to be the result of multiple injuries from an animal attack. The injuries were consistent with those made by a canine. Denholm’s body was found on Jan. 23 within close proximity of the residence where she was staying.
MONTE VISTA — After less than a year in her position, Andrea “Ande” Davis, Superintendent of Sargent School District, turned in her resignation to the Sargent Board of Education earlier this week.
CONEJOS COUNTY — In a press release issued earlier this week, Conejos County Sheriff Garth Crowther is advising people that, as the spring and summer seasons approach, Conejos County is currently facing dry conditions and a low snowpack, both of which have led to concerns regarding the potential for increased wildfire risk.
A prescribed fire on the Monte Vista National Wildfire Refuge will be conducted through March 28. Primary ignition days will be Tuesday and Wednesday.
