Seven Sargent swimmers headed to state meet

ALAMOSA – The Sargent High School girls swimming team will send seven athletes to the Class 3A State Meet which takes place at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton on Monday and Tuesday.

Five of the swimmers will be competing in the pool with two of them in individual events.

Emma Sewell of Sargent will compete in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, while KayLee Gonzales-Moore of Alamosa will be in the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.

Sewell has the sixth-best time of 2:18.63 in the 200 IM, and the eighth-best time in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.91. Gonzales Moore has a time of 59.72 seconds in the 100 freestyle, and 1:12.90 in the 100 breaststroke.

Both will also be in relay events along with Centauri’s Alycia Chavez-Martinez, Sargent’s Isabella Anderson and Sargent’s Kyra Griffin.

Sargent has a time of 2:03.64 in the 200 medley relay, 1:51.10 in the 200 freestyle relay, and 4:20.13 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The remaining two, Alamosa’s Jade Canales and Rachel Polkwoske, who is home schooled, are alternates.

The preliminaries will be on Monday and the finals on Tuesday afternoon.
