Moeller breaks AHS 100-meter record

ALAMOSA – Alamosa High School’s Brayden Moeller set a new record in the 100-meter dash last Saturday at the Thunderstorm Invitational which took place at CSU Pueblo.

Moeller’s time was 10.98 seconds and he is the first AHS athlete to break the 11-second mark. The old record was 11.11 seconds set in 1984.

Also at the Thunderstorm Invitational, several personal bests were achieved. Elizabeth McQuitty had a PR in the 3,200-meter run on 11:13, which was the winning time. Jeremiah DeLaCerda also set a PR in the 800 meters in 2:05, Tyler Dokson had a personal best of 54 seconds in the 400, and Victoria Gifford had a PR in the 800 in 2:35.

Ethan Merrick set a freshman record in the 3,200 in 9:51.

The AHS girls team won the Del Norte Invitational also on Saturday. Alicia Gonzalez had a personal best in the long jump at 16-3, and Timay Garcia had a PR in the pole vault at 7-10.

At The Classical Academy Invitational Thursday in Colorado Springs, Kaylee Gonzales-Moore had a PR in the 200 in 27.31 seconds. A’Jordanae Lewis had a PR in the long jump at 14-8. Merrick also set a freshman record in the 1,600 in 4:38.

Alamosa will compete at the Ron Keller Invitational in Durango on Monday.
