ALAMOSA – The third-ranked Alamosa High School girls soccer team played at home for the first time this season on Friday as it hosted Pagosa Springs.

It was a good home opener for the Lady Mean Moose as they blanked the Lady Pirates by a score of 4-0.

“We’re having a very good start to the season,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben.

It didn’t take long for Alamosa to get on the scoreboard as Araceli Molina scored off a Leah Higareda assist just 54 seconds into the game.

It took almost 30 minutes for the Lady Mean Moose to score again. This time Higareda scored with Molina supplying the assist.

The lead grew to 3-0 just six minutes later as Lexany Heredia sent a free kick just over the reach of Pagosa goalkeeper Keira Davis.

Higareda scored her second goal just four minutes into the second half to wrap up the scoring.

Alamosa had 20 shots on goal, while the defense allowed Pagosa only three, all of which goalkeeper Emily Tibbits stopped.

“Our defense has been very strong this season,” coach Wubben said. “We have only two goals scored on us this season, so we we’ve mainly had shutouts.”

The Lady Mean Moose also had five corner kicks while the Lady Pirates had none.

Alamosa defeated Bayfield, 6-1

Alamosa traveled to Bayfield on Saturday and it came away with a 6-1 win.

Molina and Jayden Wuuben both had two goals, while Higareda and Noemi Lemus each had one.

Tibbits had three saves.
