Lady Mean Moose gain one win, one draw this week

ALAMOSA – It was a vast contrast of games this week as the fifth-ranked Alamosa High School girls soccer team hosted a pair of contests at the AHS stadium.

On Tuesday, the Lady Mean Moose blasted Ignacio, 13-0, while they played to a 1-1 tie against Montezuma-Cortez on Friday.

“Cortez is a really good team,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “I’m super happy that that we got the tie.”

Leah Higareda got Alamosa going with a goal in the eighth minute. Lexany Heredia scored just a few seconds later for a 2-0 lead.

Higareda then scored three consecutive goals. She scored in the 10th minute and twice in the 11th minute.

Jayden Wubben then recorded as natural hat trick. She scored in the 12th, 13th and 15th minutes.

Heredia scored her second goal in the 16th minute.

Araceli Molina then scored two straight goals in the 19th and 20th minutes.

The final two goals were scored by Noemi Lemus in the 21st minute, and by Myissa Duran in the 26th minute.

The game was called at halftime on the mercy rule.

The Lady Mean Moose were led by Higareda with four goals, Wubben with three, Heredia with two and Molina with two.

Heredia also had four assists and Wubben had two.

The Lady Bobcats managed only one shot on goal which was collected by goalkeeper Emily Tibbits.

The Lady Mean Moose had 32 shots on goal and five corner kicks.

Alamosa 1, Montezuma-Cortez 1

The game was scoreless for the first 25 minutes before Emilynn Hill put a shot just over Tibbits to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.

The Lady Mean Moose tied the score in the 58th minute as Molina took a Wubben pass and put it into the goal.

Both teams had chances to score after that but were unsuccessful.

Tibbits had four saves for Alamosa.

Alamosa had 13 shots on goal while Cortez had five. The Lady Panthers had six corner kicks and the Lady Mean Moose had two.

What’s next

Alamosa (7-0-1, 3-0-1) will have three home games over the next four days. It will host Pueblo Centennial today at 1 p.m., Salida Monday at 4:30 p.m., and Del Norte Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

“Our schedule is pretty hard, but my girls are strong and I’m fully confident we can pull it out,” said coach Wubben.
