ALAMOSA – Two Alamosa High School student athletes signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers on Wednesday.
Shea Jordan signed to play softball at Briar Cliff University, an NAIA school in Sioux City, Iowa, and Noemi Lemus signed to play women’s soccer at Trinidad State College.
“They really gave me a great opportunity,” Jordan said. “They have a great softball program, and I got scholarships for music and softball. So it seemed like the best thing for me.”
“I’ve played soccer since I was a kid and I wanted to continue after high school,” Lemus said. “So I am so happy that I got the opportunity.”
Both Jordan and Lemus were one-sport athletes and both were four-year letter winners at AHS. But both exceled at their sports.
Jordan was the Lady Mean Moose’s top pitcher. She had a record of six wins and 11 losses and she struck out 95 while walking 34. She also batted .357 with nine RBIs, two doubles and two home runs.
Lemus scored three goals and had four assists for 10 total points. She led the team in steals with 80.
“Soccer has always been my passion,” Lemus said. “It’s something I’ve always enjoyed playing.
“I played all four years and was the starting pitcher for two,” Jordan said. “It’s been a really good time. I’ve enjoyed all of it.”
The Lady Mean Moose advanced to the Class 3A State Tournament the all four years.
Lemus helped lead the Lady Mean Moose to Intermountain League titles the past two years as well as appearances in the Class 3A State Tournament.
“I’ve been playing since my freshman year and this is my senior year playing,” Lemus said.
Both said there are several memories they will take from Alamosa to their next destinations.
“I’m going to take the memories of my team and all the wins we had and growing together,” Jordan said. “I think it’s going to be a good opportunity to my next team.”
“I’m going to take the memories that I had from my team,” Lemus said. “I have a lot of support from my coaches and my teammates, so hopefully I can create new friendships and bonds when I go play at Trinidad.”
