Alamosa girls pick up two weekend wins

Alamosa girls pick up two weekend wins

ALAMOSA – The 10th-ranked Alamosa High School girls basketball team recovered from its loss to Centauri last Tuesday with a pair of blowout wins this past weekend.

The Lady Mean Moose defeated Ignacio 46-26 on Friday and then they defeated then seventh-ranked Lamar 56-12 on Saturday.

Both games were played at the AHS gym.

Alamosa 46, Ignacio 26

Alamosa got off to a hot start by scoring the first nine points of the game. Audrina Knorr scored four of the points, Morgan Ortega and Kadie Hawkins both scored two and Arreli Felix scored one.

Alyssa Atencio put the Lady Bobcats on the scoreboard by making one out of two free throws. But Knorr scored the final points of the first quarter and the Lady Mean Moose led 11-1.

Alexia Montoya and Aubrey Rothermich both scored two points and Felix one as Alamosa increased its lead to 16-1. Delaney Wesner scored Ignacio’s first field goal, however, Knorr scored five more points and Hawkins two to help the Lady Mena Moose extend their lead to 23-3.

Wesner scored another basket, but Felix drained a 3-point basket and Alamosa led at halftime, 26-5.

The two teams exchanged points in the third quarter. Knorr scored four points, Rothermich three and Ortega two, while Marissa Olguin scored eight points for Ignacio, and Atencio and Maliyah Martinez both scored two. The Lady Mean Moose had a 35-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Alamosa outscored Ignacio 11-9 in the fourth quarter. Kamryn Moeller scored four points in the quarter, Ortega, Cammi Maestas and Leela Gutierrez all scored two, and Jaelin Garcia one.

For the Lady Bobcats, Julianne Avila scored four points, Olguin three, and Abeyta two.

Knorr led Alamosa in scoring with 15 points, while Olguin was Ignacio’s top scorer with 11.

Alamosa 56, Lamar 12

Ortega gave the Lady Mean Moose the early lead with a 3-pointer, but Carlin Weber hit a jumper for the Lady Thunder. Rothermich responded with a jumper, but Tatum Milenski drained a three to tie the score at 5-5.

Rothermich put Alamosa back into the lead, and Knotrr made a layup and added a free throw for a 10-5 lead.

Mireya Gomez made two free throws, but Knorr scored another layup. Chloe Weber’s jumper brought Lamar within 12-9, but Ortega made a pair of free throws. Chloe Weber made one of two at the line and the Lady Mean Moose led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Alamosa started to pull away in the second quarter by outscoring Lamare 13-1. Knorr and Hawkins scored four points in the quarter, Ortega three, and Garcia two. Chloe Weber scored the Lady Thunder’s only point of the period and Alamosa had a 27-11 lead.

The Lady Mean Moose scored 22 points in the third quarter and shut out the Lady Thunder. Montoya scored six points in the quarter, Vanessa Villalva scored five, Rothermich four, Ortega three, and Knorr and Hawkins two.

The Lady Mean Moose had a 49-11 lead at the end of the third.

Alamosa outscored Lamar 7-1 in the fourth which was played under a running clock. Ortega scored three points, and Villalva and Felix two. Gomez scored the Lady Thunder’s only point.

Ortega led Alamosa in scoring with 14 points, followed by Knorr with 11, Rothermich with eight and Villalva with seven.

Chloe Weber was Lamar’s top scorer with four points.

Alamosa (11-5, 3-2) hosted Monte Vista on Tuesday. It will host Bayfield on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and then travel to Montezuma-Cortez on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
