16 SLV basketball teams to play in regional tournaments

ALAMOSA – The Colorado High School Activities Association released its regional/state basketball brackets on Sunday with 16 teams from the San Luis Valley qualifying.

In Class 4A girls, Alamosa is the fifth overall seed and it will host a regional this weekend. The Lady Mean Moose will host Weld Central on Friday at 7 p.m. The other game will be between Kent Denver and The Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m.

The winners of these two games will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner to advance to the Class 4A State Tournament March 12-15 at the Denver Coliseum.

In Class 3A girls, Centauri is the No. 2 overall seed and it too will host a regional. The Lady Falcons will host Liberty Common at 3 p.m., and Ellicott and Manual will play in the other game at 6 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday at noon.

Monte Vista also qualified for a Class 3A regional and it will travel to Cedaredge. The Lady Pirates are seeded 20th and it will play Yuma of Friday at 7 p.m. The other game will be between the host, Cedaredge, and Ignacio. The winners will take on each other on Saturday at 11 a.m.

In Class 3A boys, Centauri is the fifth seed and it will also host a regional tournament. The Falcons will face Platte Valley on Friday at 4:30 p.m., with the other game being between Peyton and Bayfield at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Monte Vista boys are the 25th seed and it will play at Yuma on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The other game will between Liberty Common and Buena Vista at 7 p.m. The winners play Saturday at 1 p.m.

The winners of the Class 3A regionals will advance to the state tournament which takes place March 13-15 at the University of Denver’s Hamilton Gym.

In Class 2A girls, four local teams will be in regional action.

Sanford is the second overall seed and it will host a regional. The Lady Mustangs will take on Holyoke on Friday at 3 p.m, with the second game being between Gilpin County and Dove Creek at 6 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday at noon.

Sargent is the eighth seed and it too will host a regional. The Lady Farmers will host Crowley County Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Heritage Christian and Fowler will be in the other game at 5 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday at noon.

Center is the 10th seed and it will play at Hoehne on Friday. The Lady Vikings will play Dayspring Christian Academy at 7 p.m., and Hoehne will play Trinidad in the other game at 5:30 p.m. The winners play on Saturday at 1 p.m..

Del Norte enters as the 14th seed and it will play in Revere. The Lady Tigers will take on Haxtun on Friday at 7 p.m., and Sedgwick Christian will host Limon at 5:30 p.m. The winners will face off on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Class 2A boys, Sanford is the eighth seed and it will host a regional this weekend. The Mustangs will play Two Roads Charter School at 4:30 p.m., and Heritage Christian will play Ridgway at 7:30 p.m. The winners play on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Del Norte is the 23rd seed and it will play at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton. The Tigers will play Haxtun on Friday at 7 p.m., with Golden View Classical Academy will play Belleview Christian at 5 p.m. The winners play at noon on Saturday.

Center is the 29th seed and it will play in Byers. The Vikings will play the host team at 5:30 p.m., while Akron and Twin Peaks Classical Academy will play in the second game at 7 p.m. The winners play Saturday at 2 p.m.

The winners of the Class 2A regionals will advance to the state tournament March 13-15 at Blue FCU Arena in Loveland.

In Class 2A girls, Sierra Grande is the 21st seed and Creede is seeded 28th. Both will play at Fleming with the Lady Miners playing Fleming at 5 p.m., and the Lady Panthers facing Cheyenne Wells at 6:30 p.m. The winners face off Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Class 1A boys, Sierra Grande is the eighth seed and it will host a regional. The Panthers will host Wiley, while Elbert will face Kit Carson.

Sangre de Cristo is the 32nd seed and it will play at top-seeded McClave on Friday at 3 p.m. The other game will be between De Beque and Cotopaxi at 4:30 p.m. The winners play Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The Class 1A regional winners will advance to the state tournament, which will be March 13-15 at the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.
