Carl Richard Ivey passed away May 28, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Louisiana in 1938 to Thomas W. Ivey and Beulah Kirkpatrick Ivey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; sisters Vonnie and Bess, and brothers John D and Lee Roy Ivey.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; and three daughters and their families; including four grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

He leaves a large and loving family of nieces, nephews, and dearest friends with whom he shared great joy in their growth and happiness.

Following school, Carl moved from Louisiana to work for his brothers in the wholesale lumber business, where over the years he expanded the retail business into three local branches. His daughter, Carla, later joined him, leading the business as he settled into semi-retirement in Florida and Colorado.

Carl enjoyed traveling, and was an excellent skier, loving the great powder of Colorado and teaching the family to ski. He also loved sailing and spent warmer months exploring the coastal Gulf waters of Florida.

Everywhere, he attracted a close circle of friends and served as an active volunteer. He was a Rotarian, engaged in diverse civic projects and served on the Chamber of Commerce in Colorado. He could easily be found mentoring young adults in grilling, sailing, cooking, carpentry and setting up free Thanksgiving dinners.

He was very much a family man who had a large heart for friendships, as well. He will be missed by so many in so many ways.

Memorials may be made to Genesis Women's Shelter or a charity of choice.
