Monte Vista native and longtime resident Robert Lauren Bryning, 78, passed away on November 16, 2021. He was born on March 31, 1943 in Del Norte, Colo., to Kyle Bryning and Thelma (Correll) Bryning.
Bob proudly served his country in the US Army from 1962 to 1972.
Bob was extremely active in local government, serving on the City Council, the Planning and Zoning Committee, the One Percent Board, the Board of Adjustments, the Economic Development Board, the Boys and Girls Club of the SLV Board, the Faith Hinkley Memorial Park Board, the Skateboard Park Board, the Pavilion and Glen Martinez Headstone Board, the Rally in the Valley Board, and the Angels Among Us Toy Drive.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Vigil) Bryning, two children: Brenda (David) Wreford of Monte Vista, and Barbara (Kenneth) Sears of Monte Vista, three grandchildren: Olivia Wreford of Minneapolis, Minn., Kendra (Ethan) Reschke of Springville, Utah, and Maria Sears of Monte Vista, Colo., and two honorary grandchildren: Taylor and Lauren Trujillo of Del Norte, Colo.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Thelma Bryning, his brother, Gerald Bryning, and his sister, Janet Welsh.
A celebration of life service was held on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene in Monte Vista, Colo., followed by interment at Homelake Veterans Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colo. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kids Connection of Monte Vista, Colo.
