ALAMOSA — The public and former students or colleagues of long-time SLV music educator Linwood Warwick are cordially invited to join the SLV Community Band – either as a participating musician or as an audience member. This is for a tribute concert slated for Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in ASU's Leon Memorial Hall.
This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and reminisce about the days spent under Warwick's guidance.
The program for the May 22 concert will open with Leroy Anderson's “Trumpeter's Lullaby”, and will conclude with Frank Ticheli's “Rest” – a composition commissioned by a family to honor the memory of their father who passed away. "These bookend tributes intend to both say goodbye to our friend and colleague, and to honor the memory and subsequent legacy of one of the most influential music educators to have taught in the San Luis Valley," said Kerry Hart, Director of the SLV Community Band.
Former students and colleagues of Lin Warwick who feel current enough in their musicianship are encouraged to join the band for rehearsals beginning Thursday, April 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ortega Middle School band room. For others, attendance as an audience member will honor those who are performing to pay tribute to Warwick.
"The final number of the concert, Rest, is a deeply emotional and powerful composition," Hart said. "To have many of Mr. Warwick's students and colleagues stand to honor Lin Warwick as this piece is being performed will amplify the emotion and power of this final tribute to one who earned our respect as a band director's director." This moment will be a powerful testament to the impact Mr. Warwick had on all of us.
