Longtime Monte Vista resident Jose "Lupe" Guadalupe Luna Sr., passed away Aug. 4, 2021. Lupe was born on Nov. 9, 1947, in Center, Colo., to Alfred and Eulalia (Arellano)Luna.
Lupe worked as a carpenter with his brother Willie Luna for a few years then went on to do other colorful jobs at the honey farm and the local lumber yard. He started working for the Colorado State Veterans Center in 1972 and retired from there in 1997.
He never fully retired. Lupe loved helping others and keeping himself busy. He worked for the Methodist Church for 10 years part time. They called him the singing custodian, he was always singing as he worked and sang for the Lord.
His passion was in his faith to God and services and singing he did for his church St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. He was thrilled for the services he did helping the elderly in his community as well. He served as a board member for Tri County.
The most important thing in his life was his family. Lupe spent many years teaching his children his amazing work ethic.
He will live on through his loving wife Fabiola Luna of 56 years, children Ruben (Amy) Luna, J.J. (Megan) Luna, Angela Luna (Mike Nelson), Michelle (Chuck) Martinez, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters Josie Garcia and Virginia Lopez and one brother Michael Luna.
Lupe was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Eulalia Luna, brothers Willie Luna, Jimmy Luna, Alfred Luna, sister Sadie Arellano.
