Herrera, Romero top runners at Rio Frio

ALAMOSA – A total of 233 runners – 108 males and 125 females – braved the below-freezing temperatures to run in the annual Rio Frio 5K race on Saturday at Cole Park.

Herrera, Romero top runners at Rio Frio

ALAMOSA – A total of 233 runners – 108 males and 125 females – braved the below-freezing temperatures to run in the annual Rio Frio 5K race on Saturday at Cole Park. 

The overall winner of the race was Joaquin Herrera of Alamosa, who ran the course in 18 minutes and 31 seconds. Second place was claimed by Max Muller of Alamosa in 19:13, and third went to Dan Rael of Questa, N.M., in 19:14. 

Miriam Romero of Alamosa was the top women’s runner in 21:50. Frannie Edelen of Del Norte was second among the women in 23:15, and Shae Romero of Alamosa was third in 23:22. 

The following are the top runner in each age group. 

Boys 1-13 – Cole Edelen, Del Norte, 21:38. 

Girls 1-13 – Shae Romero, Alamosa, 23:22. 

Boys 14-18 – Jayce Johnson, Alamosa, 20:48. 

Girls 14-18 – Frannie Edelen, Del Norte, 23:15 

Men 19-29 – Joaquin Herrera, Alamosa, 18:31. 

Women 19-29 – Aly Kimbrell, Del Norte, 25:41. 

Men 30-39 – Dan Rael, Questa, N.M., 19:14. 

Women 30-39 – Miriam Romero, Alamosa, 21:50. 

Men 40-49 – Brent Edelen, Del Norte, 19:52. 

Women 40-49 – Jennifer Leonard, Denver, 28:59. 

Men 50-59 – Scott Graber, Alamosa, 21:14. 

Women 50-59 – Kelly Bleakney, Alamosa, 33:15. 

Men 60-98 – Grant Dewey, Colorado Springs, 27:01 

Women 60-98 – Elizabeth Maroney, Thornton, 29:39.
