SAN LUIS — On Jan. 7, Costilla County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Schultz and his wife, Tanya White, were honored by Heroes of Blue, an organization that recognizes officers that have shown exceptional resilience and willingness to continue the difficult work of a police officer, despite danger and injury.
Officer Schultz was shot and, in another instance, sustained severe injuries in a high-speed chase.
His wife, White, is a first responder with Costilla County. She works as an EMT and paramedic and teaches those skills as well.
An anonymous member of the San Luis community nominated the couple. They were treated to a weekend in Denver and 50-yardline tickets to the Broncos game on Jan. 8.
