ALAMOSA – A pair of third-ranked teams in their respective classifications competed on Friday as the Alamosa High School girls basketball (Class 4A) team hosted Centauri (Class 3A) at the AHS gym.

The visiting Lady Falcons outlasted the Lady Mean Moose 39-30, and in the process won the Intermountain League championship. It also extended Centauri’s winning streak to seven games and ended Alamosa’s at eight.

Hannah Curtis gave Centauri the early lead with a 3-point basket. Morgan Ortega put Alamosa on the board by making one of two from the free throw line.

Audrina Knorr tied the score at 3-3, and Aubrey Rothermich made a layup to give the Lady Mean Moose a 5-3 edge.

Alyvia Norton tied the score with a jumper, but Knorr split at the line to give Alamosa a 6-5 lead.

Denver Holman made a layup to put the Lady Falcons back on top at 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Leela Gutierrez put the Lady Mean Moose back into the lead at the beginning of the second quarter, but Joselyn McCarroll gave the advantage back to Centauri. Jaelin Garcia sank a pair of free throws and Knorr drained a three to give Alamosa a 13-9 advantage.

Holman made back-to-back baskets to tie the score, and Emily Tibbitts put the Lady Falcons back into the lead. Lyndie Sowards hit a jumper just before time expired to give Centauri at 17-13 lead at halftime.

Garcia made a layup, but Holman made one of two free throws. Arreli Felix did the same for Alamosa, but Tucker made another 3-pointer. Rylie McCarroll scored in the paint, but Knorr split at the line.

Tucker hit another three to give the Lady Falcons a 31-19 advantage.

Knorr and Garcia both made baskets to close out the third quarter and cut the Centauri lead to 31-23.

Joselyn McCarroll increased the lead to 10, and Jocelyn Jarvies scored for a 35-23 lead.
