ALAMOSA – The fifth-ranked Centauri High School boys basketball team finished the 2024-25 regular season undefeated as it defeated Alamosa 63-31 Friday at the AHS gym.
Carson Shawcroft gave the Falcons the early lead with a layup, but Nelson Arambula put the Mean Moose on the board. Jace Haslet scored for Centauri, however, Victor Zepeda hit a 3-point basket to give Alamosa its only lead of the game at 5-4.
Troy Sowards and Shawcroft drained threes, but Brennan Maez also connected on a trey to cut the Falcons’ lead to 10-8. Shawcroft made another three, and Carson Bagwell knocked down a jumper to give Centauri a 15-8 advantage qt the end of the first quarter.
Zepeda scored the first points of the second quarter, but Bagwell, Sowards and Haslett all scored layups to stretch the lead to 21-10. Josh Gonzalez scored for the Mean Moose, but Centauri scored the final 12 points of the period. Bagwell scored nine of them and Sowards three and the Falcons led 33-12 at halftime.
Sowards scored two baskets to begin the second half, and Todd Broyles and Kamryn Garcia also made layups for a 41-12 lead.
Zepeda made a 3-pointer, but Broyles scored again. Zepeda scored in the paint to cut the Falcons’ lead to 43-17 at the end of the third quarter.
Shawcroft began the fourth quarter with a three and Sowards followed with a dunk. Haslett split at the line to extend the advantage to 39-17.
Zepeda drained another three, but Shawcroft scored a layup. Zepeda split at the line and Maez drove for a layup. Donovan Jarvies scored a layup, but Zepeda answered with his fourth 3-pointer.
Keadon McGinnis made two free throws and later a three. Tony Griego made a trey of his own, but Garcia drained a three and McGinnis a layup.
Jayden Lujan made a jumper to wrap up the scoring.
Zepeda led all scorers with 17 points.
The Falcons had three players score in double figures. Sowards led the way with 14 points, and Bagwell and Shawcroft both scored 13.
Alamosa finishes the season with a record of four wins and 19 losses and they were 2-10 in Intermountain League play.
Centauri (23-0, 12-0) will host a Class 3A regional tournament this weekend.
