ALAMOSA — The Adams State University Chamber Choir first full performance of the season begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.

ALAMOSA – Society Hall is excited to welcome Taos, N.M., singer-songwriters Kim Treiber and Chipper Thompson and their band to the stage. They will be joined by Alamosa multi-instrumentalist and producer Don Richmond, as well as drummer Gilbert Frayer and bassist Conrad Cooper, and special guest Nicole Hayworth on vocals. The concert will be on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Society Hall, 400 Ross Ave., Alamosa.
FORT GARLAND — History Colorado is excited to announce that it has received a $164,000 grant from the Historic Preservation Fund, as administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior. This funding – which was congressionally directed – will be matched by History Colorado to update geothermal heating systems and make various buildings at Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center more energy efficient.
WOLF CREEK PASS – Wolf Creek Ski Area, known for the “Most Snow in Colorado”, lives up to its name after an impressive 26-inch mid-October storm and is opening today, Oct. 22. The storm left an 18-inch midway for Wolf Creek’s 85th anniversary opening day.
ALAMOSA – The Adams State University School of Visual and Performing Arts and the Department of Music will host the Pikes Peak Brass Band at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.
Students of Sharon Meyer performed a recital on Oct. 8 at the Living Water Bible Fellowship Church.
ALAMOSA – Korsail Energy recently announced it was having a job fair and local business meet and greet on Oct. 29 at Adams State University’s Plachy Hall Field House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
ALAMOSA — A 59-year-old woman from Santa Fe, N.M., was fatally injured in a traffic accident on Friday when the vehicle in which she was riding tried to pass another vehicle as it was turning left.
ALAMOSA – Adams State University will host “25 Yard Gap-The Veteran Experience,” by Dave Nordel, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Carson Auditorium, located in the Student Union Building, as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The event is free and open to the public.
ALAMOSA – Society Hall is excited to bring two powerhouse Austin singer-songwriters, Michael O'Connor and Jason McIntyre, to the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at Society Hall, 400 Ross Ave., Alamosa.
GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK and PRESERVE — On a stunning recent fall afternoon, Park Ranger Patrick Myers conducted a nature walk with park visitors along the Mountville Nature Trail. Myers spoke of the human history of Native Americans, Spanish settlers, Buffalo Soldiers, Japanese-Americans, and World War II soldiers who all used the surrounding areas.
CENTER – The Town of Center is hosting its first-ever Dia de los Muertos Brewfest on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 2 to 10 p.m., at the Old Ford Garage at 295 E. 3rd St. The 21-and-old event is expected to have live music and beer from breweries all over Colorado. Entrance is $30 per person.
CRESTONE – On Oct. 5, the Baca Grande Library hosted a Science Open House. The open house featured new scientific kits that were purchased with a grant for the library. Library users will be able to check the kits in and out of the library.
MONTE VISTA – The Fall in Love with Jesus Nazarene block party was Sunday, Oct. 6, at 228 Madison St. The event had many activities, including games for children. One of the most popular was a mechanical bull that children and adults could ride on.
ALAMOSA – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Adams State University Equity Board and El Llamado Hispano, a committee of the Alamosa Chamber of Commerce, organized the San Luis Valley’s Got Talent contest and performance at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.
DEL NORTE — The Rio Grande County Democratic Party is holding its 4th Annual JFK fundraiser dinner on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Colorado Grille and Taphouse, 590 Grand Ave., Del Norte. Doors open at 6 p.m. Each dinner has featured relevant and interesting Democrat speakers and this year is no exception. The keynote speaker will be State Senator and Senate Majority Whip Julie Gonzales (SD 34).
ALAMOSA – Society Hall is proud to welcome back the Colorado folk – Americana group The River Arkansas at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. The River Arkansas is fronted by former Haunted Windchimes songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mike Clark. In the winter of 2014, Clark penned a collection of songs about heartbreak, love, and escaping the clutches of day-to-day society. The following spring, Clark decided to make that collection into a record.
DEL NORTE – The Rio Grande National Forest jointly organized and hosted a well-attended meeting in September with numerous Native American Tribes. Working with the San Luis Valley Field Office BLM, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, and the San Luis Valley National Wildlife Refuge Complex, the purpose of this event was to review, update and re-commit to a locally special agreement aimed at enhancing the intent of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
