Red or blue, it's up to you

By the time you read this, the votes should have all been counted and tallied and we can, at least, watch a little bit of television without a political ad being blasted into our homes.

Elections have become more of a run of popularity of late with candidates spending millions of dollars on a campaign for a job that pays a small salary. That alone should be a warning sign to all of us peons, but we keep sending the same idiots to their phony bologna jobs at capitals across this country.

Ol’ Dutch long ago gave up on the politicians to solve any problems we have. It just seems to me that trusting the very people who got us into this mess to get us out is insanity at best. I guess all of us are just so busy trying to work our jobs, take our kids to school, pay the mortgage and survive that we really cannot be bothered with finding more qualified individuals for these jobs. And more qualified people have what is known as “lives” and do not want those political hack jobs.

Miss Trixie herself still maintains some crazy notion that her party of choice will solve all the problems in the world even though they have failed miserably every time they are in office. It's always the same whether you are red or blue as the promises made during the runup to the election are so inviting and somehow believable we all fall to their allure.

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking that somehow a Moses will come along and deliver us from the plagues of Egypt. I don't know. But we all know that once they get in their jobs that special interests and personal vendettas take over and they do what they want and not what they promised all along.

I think one of the biggest problems with the elections as they are is they discriminate against hunters and fishermen due to the time of year that the elections are held. We all know that fall and spring are prime times for such outdoor pursuits and any outdoorsman or woman worth their salt will be so caught up in procuring game for the larder that they won't have time to vote. And this plays right into some of the political agendas out there today as they don’t like us having guns or killing fish.

So, it appears that the very nature of our sport and lifestyle will eventually cause its demise as we don't get to vote for people who might support just such a way of life.

Ol’ Dutch has been concerned about just such goin’s on for quite some time and that's one reason I keep Miss Trixie around. To cancel out her vote with my vote. There is an old saying to “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” and so I keep her up nice and tight against me for just that purpose.

Well, there may be a few other reasons including her fantastic cooking skills but that took a sidetrack of late as she has been feeding me fake eggs from a carton that tastes like — well — the carton. I realize that is saving us probably $0.01 per egg a day and it's an honest attempt on her part to save Ol’ Dutch some money but with the National Debt well over $30 trillion dollars, now is not the time to save a penny.

I guess whoever won this past Tuesday I do wish them all the best as we are in a real pickle financially and the threats against this Nation have never been more pressing.

Let’s just hope they can somehow find it within themselves to think of all of us instead of their own self-interests. Ol’ Dutch really does not hold out much hope for that due to past performance of the same bunch of clowns in charge, but I do hope that my personal situation improves enough that Miss Trixie will buy a dozen real eggs.

She promised to do so this morning, but we have yet to see if her pre-election promises will come to fruition in the fridge.
