One-vehicle crash claims life of 27-year-old Capulin resident

ALAMOSA — On Saturday night, a one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a young woman from Capulin.

According to Capt. Nathan Lyons, public information officer with the Colorado State Patrol, at 10:38 p.m., Tenisha Ortega, 27, was traveling westbound in a 2006 white Pontiac sedan on Highway 160 just east of Monte Vista city limits when the vehicle went off the left side of the highway. The vehicle then came back “straight across the road” and went off the north side of the road into a fence. The vehicle rolled and came to rest in a dry irrigation ditch.

According to Lyons, Ortega was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car. She was the only occupant of the car, and no other vehicles were involved. Ortega was declared deceased at the scene.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the accident for impairment and excessive speed. “The state patrol encourages all parties to report instances when they observe distracted drivers by calling *CSP or their local dispatch center,” says Capt. Lyons.
