LA JARA—Delightful quilts and delicious barbeque are both on order for Sunday, July 12, at the 46th Annual Barbecue and Handmade Quilt Auction in La Jara. The Conejos County Hospital Auxiliary is preparing for the event which is being co-sponsored by the La Jara Rotary Club in the gym of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Auxiliary Vice Chairman Ann Holmes said old scrapbooks show that a barbeque has always been held in conjunction with the auction. “Those who come this year will enjoy a beautiful selection of handmade quilts and great food. The event has always been a coming together of the community to support the hospital,” she said.

The quilts that will be auctioned are handmade by ladies from several area churches and are on display at the Community Bank of the Rockies in La Jara. Proceeds from the quilt auction will be used to purchase needed equipment for the Conejos County Hospital. “We will have over 20 quilts. As a special treat, we have three queen sized cross-stitched quilts that are also quilted by hand. They are quite unusual and beautiful,” Holmes said.

Additional auction items will be available, as well as door prizes and a queen size quilt will be raffled. Tickets for the barbecue are available at Conejos County Hospital or from any Auxiliary member or Rotarian or at the barbecue. The quilt auction begins at 1 p.m.
